Overview

About All-on-6

All-on-6 replaces a full arch of teeth with a fixed bridge supported by six implants. The additional implants spread chewing forces more widely than a four-implant design.

It is often preferred when there is enough bone across the arch, when the bite is strong or when the dentist wants extra support for a longer bridge. The process is similar to All-on-4, with temporary teeth first and the final bridge after healing.

Suitability

Who it may be suitable for

  • Most or all teeth missing or failing in an arch
  • Enough bone across the arch for six implants, or grafting where needed
  • A strong bite or a longer planned bridge
  • Commitment to daily cleaning and regular reviews

These are general points only. Your dentist confirms what is suitable after an examination, which usually includes X-rays or a 3D scan, and may recommend a different or more conservative option.

The process

How it works

  1. Full assessment

A 3D scan and examination show whether six implants can be placed safely and where.

  2. Extractions and placement

Remaining failing teeth are removed and six implants are placed, sometimes with bone grafting.

  3. Temporary bridge

If stability allows, a fixed temporary bridge is attached within days.

  4. Final bridge

After three to six months of healing, the permanent bridge is fitted on a second visit.

Aftercare

What to expect and aftercare

  1. First 2–3 days

Swelling and soreness peak and then ease. You follow a soft diet, avoid hot drinks while numb, and take any prescribed medication.

  2. First 1–2 weeks

Stitches dissolve or are removed and the gum heals. You keep the area clean with gentle brushing and any rinse the dentist recommends.

  3. Months 3–6

The implant bonds with the bone (osseointegration). You may have a temporary tooth or denture during this time.

  4. Second visit

Once healing is confirmed, impressions or scans are taken and the final crown or bridge is fitted.

  5. Long term

Clean around implants as carefully as natural teeth, and keep regular check-ups so any gum problems are caught early.

Timelines vary between people. Always follow the aftercare instructions from your treating clinic.

Good to know

Risks and considerations

  • Six implants need more bone than four. Grafting may be needed, which can extend the overall timeline.
  • Smoking, uncontrolled diabetes and some medications, including certain osteoporosis drugs, raise the risk of the implant not integrating. Share your full medical history.
  • Swelling, bruising and discomfort for a few days are common. Infection, nerve irritation and implant failure are uncommon but possible.
  • Implants can develop gum and bone inflammation around them (peri-implantitis) if not cleaned well. Daily cleaning and regular check-ups matter for the long term.
FAQ

Common questions

Is All-on-6 always better than All-on-4?

Not always. More implants give more support, but they need more bone and surgery. The right choice depends on your anatomy, bite and the dentist’s assessment.

How long does a full-arch bridge last?

Implants can last many years with good care. The bridge itself may need repairs or replacement over time, particularly the teeth surfaces.

How many trips to Istanbul will I need?

It depends on the treatment. Ceramic veneers and crowns are usually completed in one stay of around a week, while implants normally need two visits a few months apart to allow healing. Your coordinator confirms the schedule once the dentist has reviewed your X-rays or scan.

How is the cost decided?

The price depends on the number of teeth involved, the materials and any preparatory work the dentist finds necessary. You receive a written, itemised plan and quote before anything is booked, with no obligation to proceed.
