Overview

About Hollywood Smile

“Hollywood smile” is a popular name for treating most or all of the teeth that show when you smile, usually with porcelain veneers or crowns, to create an even, brighter and more symmetrical smile.

It is a cosmetic, mostly irreversible treatment. A careful plan looks at your face, lips, gum line and bite, and aims for a smile that suits you rather than the brightest possible shade. Some people are better served by a smaller number of restorations, whitening or orthodontics.

Suitability

Who it may be suitable for

  • Several teeth that are discoloured, worn, chipped or uneven
  • Healthy gums and no untreated decay, or problems treated first
  • A stable bite, or bite issues addressed as part of the plan
  • Understanding that the result needs lifelong maintenance

These are general points only. Your dentist confirms what is suitable after an examination, which usually includes X-rays or a 3D scan, and may recommend a different or more conservative option.

The process

How it works

  1. Photos and X-rays

You share smile photos and any recent X-rays so the dentist can give a first opinion before you travel.

  2. Examination and smile design

In Istanbul, the dentist examines your teeth, takes scans and plans the shape and shade, often with a digital design or trial mock-up.

  3. Preparation

Under local anaesthesia, the teeth are reshaped as planned, scans are taken and temporary restorations are fitted.

  4. Fitting

A few days later the final veneers or crowns are tried in, adjusted and bonded in place.

  5. Final check

The dentist checks your bite and gums and gives you written aftercare advice before you fly.

Aftercare

What to expect and aftercare

  1. Between appointments

If your teeth are prepared, you wear temporary restorations while the final ones are made. They look reasonable but are less strong, so soft foods are sensible.

  2. Fitting day

The final restorations are tried in, checked for fit, colour and bite, and then bonded or cemented in place.

  3. First weeks

Some sensitivity and a short period of getting used to the new shape and bite are normal. Tell your dentist if your bite feels uneven, as small adjustments are simple.

  4. Long term

Brush twice daily, clean between your teeth, avoid using your teeth as tools and keep regular check-ups and hygiene visits with your local dentist.

Timelines vary between people. Always follow the aftercare instructions from your treating clinic.

Good to know

Risks and considerations

  • Preparing teeth for porcelain veneers or crowns removes enamel, which does not grow back. The treated teeth will always need a restoration of some kind, so this is a long-term decision.
  • Porcelain and zirconia restorations are durable but not permanent. Many last well over ten years with good care, but they can chip, debond or need replacing over time.
  • Temporary sensitivity to hot and cold is common after preparation and usually settles within a few weeks.
  • Grinding or clenching (bruxism) increases the risk of fractures. Your dentist may recommend a night guard.
  • Untreated decay or gum disease must be dealt with first. Placing restorations over an unhealthy base can lead to problems later.
  • Very white shades can look unnatural on some faces. A good plan balances brightness with your skin tone and age.
FAQ

Common questions

Is a Hollywood smile the same as veneers?

It is a name for treating many teeth at once. The restorations used can be veneers, crowns or a mix, depending on the condition of each tooth.

Can I choose how white my teeth will be?

Yes, within reason. Your dentist will show you shade options and may advise against the very brightest shades if they would look unnatural for you.

How many trips to Istanbul will I need?

It depends on the treatment. Ceramic veneers and crowns are usually completed in one stay of around a week, while implants normally need two visits a few months apart to allow healing. Your coordinator confirms the schedule once the dentist has reviewed your X-rays or scan.

How is the cost decided?

The price depends on the number of teeth involved, the materials and any preparatory work the dentist finds necessary. You receive a written, itemised plan and quote before anything is booked, with no obligation to proceed.
